All of Hegel’s lectures on the philosophy of right have been preserved through transcripts. They will be published in two volumes: The first volume will fully reveal the developmental history of Hegel’s philosophy of right, from its initial conception as a philosophy of “objective spirit” in the Heidelberg Encyclopedia of 1817 to its influential formulation in Hegel’s Philosophy of Right of 1821.
All three of Hegel’s philosophy of right lectures during this period represent significant developmental steps. The first lecture already contains a substantially more concrete philosophy of ethics compared to the 1817 version, the second presents a renewed division of paragraphs, and the third, delivered through two transcripts, offers the enlightening developmental stage in the immediate lead-up to the Philosophy of Right in the context of the “Carlsbad Decrees” of 1819. – The second volume will include the transcripts of the lectures following the Philosophy of Right, as well as the Editorial Report and the annotations.
