With the “Appendix” presented in the fourth part volume (GW 28,4), the historical-critical edition of the transcripts of Hegel’s Berlin lectures on the philosophy of art is now complete. It begins with the “Editorial Report,” which provides an overview of the development of Hegel’s philosophy of art, a description of sources, and a characterization of previous transcript editions. The “Annotations” indicate the contextual references made in the lecture transcripts (GW 28,1–3). This is followed by two indexes: a “Bibliography” listing the literature cited in the “Editorial Report” and in the “Annotations.” In a two-part “Index of Persons,” both the historical figures mentioned in the four part volumes and the figures and characters in artworks, religion, and mythology referenced there are listed.
