Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Vorlesungen über die Philosophie der Kunst II, Gesammelte Werke, 28,2

The secular significance of Hegel’s philosophy for the 19th century was primarily based on his teaching activities in Berlin, i.e., his lectures on Real Philosophy. Therefore, the historical-critical edition of the transcripts of these lectures in the Gesammelte Werke holds particular importance.

Hegel’s philosophy of art, in its fully developed form, has only survived through transcripts of lectures he delivered in Berlin, a total of four times. These transcripts provide a reliable picture of the development of this discipline. Volume 2 contains the transcript from the summer semester of 1826 by Karl Gustav Julius von Griesheim (with variants from the transcripts of an anonymous source, Stefan Garczynski, Friedrich Carl Hermann Victor von Kehler, Johann Conrad Carl Löwe, and P. von der Pfordten).
